Aiming to be a “group of engineers” with the creativity and originality of a master craftsman

CEO Shigeru Kirino

In the spring of 1985, Crystal Optics started in a garage of CEO’s property. We greatly appreciate stake holders support and patronage.

At that time, our business was hand-polishing optical single crystal materials. Some optical crystal materials can only be polished by experienced craftsmen under strictly controlled temperature and humidity conditions. The polishing skill which we improved stepwise by attempting to address very delicate crystals with skill of a master craftsman resulted in the pride of having been involved in polishing various materials based on this polishing technology.

Today, we handle not only optical crystals but also other materials such as metals, ceramics, and other non-functional materials. We have also expanded from processing small parts at the time of our founding to include very large parts.

In order to achieve higher precision and shorter lead time, the company has focused on integrated production, and has developed a five-field system of machining, whetstone grinding, polishing, ultra-high-precise machining, measuring. Should be provided a drawing, we are now able to supply products our customers need, handling everything from material procurement to processing and quality assurance.

The foundation as manufacturer who aims to process big and high precise products is to keep being a group of engineers. As mentioned above, the foundation of our technology is the skill of a master craftsman which is viable to process large, difficult workpieces. We supply trustworthy data quantified objectively by a variety of measuring instruments, taking advantage of the accumulated skill of a master craftsman. We will be able to pass on skills and improve speed and quality by using measuring instruments to visualize craftsman skills correctly. Our goal is to become a group of engineers with the spirit of craftsmanship, by having our employees share advanced skills called craftsmanship and further deepening those skills.

In November 2014, we introduced 5-axis machining center so as to enter into Space & Astronomical industries. We started Space & Astronomical business when we built Kyoto factory in Kyoto Shinkoetsu district where is based on the concept of unison state-of-the-art technology and tradition.

R & D is being carried out around the world day and night in pursuit of ever higher efficiency and precision. Under the motto “View always what is going to grow in the future”, we will continue to take on the challenge of processing at ever higher levels of precision in preparation for the technology that is yet to come. We will continue to take on new challenges to expand our optical-related business.

We ask for your continued support and cooperation in the years ahead.
